King-Bruwaert House FAQ
- What is a CCRC?
King-Bruwaert House has the distinction of being a Continuing Care Retirement Community. We offer continuing levels of care - independent living, assisted living, memory loss care and skilled nursing care. Residents may enter our community at one level of care and advance or move to a different level if a health care need requires a change. - How does your community operate?
As a non-profit community since 1933, King-Bruwaert House follows its long-held mission to provide exceptional care and services. Our Board of Directors and individual committees meet regularly to review finances and budget, market changes, capital projects, department updates and strategic planning. Our priority continues to be the hiring and retention of professional, experienced employees who carry out a long tradition of providing compassionate, professional and personalized care to residents. - How do you determine a specific level of care for a prospective resident?
At King-Bruwaert House, we require a comprehensive medical assessment for all incoming residents to determine the best level of care ideally suited to their needs. Our evaluation includes a complete physical and lifestyle analysis with special attention to cognitive abilities and memory loss, ability to perform activities of daily living, appetite and dietary needs, safety concerns, fitness and recreational activities, current use of medications and any individual medical conditions. Assessments are conducted by appointment in our convenient Geriatric Assessment Center located on the north side of our main campus. - Is transportation service available to residents?
Yes, transportation service for K-B House residents is available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday by our experienced and friendly K-B drivers. The service is free for scheduled trips listed on our monthly calendar that include local shopping sites. We also transport residents to medical appointments with advance notice. For individual trips to non-medical or unscheduled destinations, transportation fees are based on distance - and service must be booked in advance to ensure driver availability. Fee-based transportation service is also available to residents who live in The Woods of King-Bruwaert and Godair Park. - Do you offer physical, speech and/or occupational therapy?
Yes, we do offer these therapies and services that are handled by our consulting therapists who follow the written recommendations of a physician or medical specialist. Most services are handled through Medicare Part B. We do not offer services that would fall under Medicare Part A. Therapy services that extend beyond Medicare Part B would be billed on an hourly basis to the resident. - Do you offer fitness and relaxation programs for residents?
Yes, we do offer many fitness activities and a relaxation class. Exercise classes are tailored to the physical capabilities of residents. Sit-and-be-Fit classes allow participants to perform chair exercises with hand or bar weights in all levels of care. Residents may visit our Fitness Center daily where regular classes incorporate the use of air-compressed fitness equipment, steppers, cycles and tread mills.
A weekly relaxation class focuses on breathing and guided meditation. Residents participating in our gardening and horticultural therapy classes experience sensory and tactile stimulation from plants through fragrances, colors, shapes and sizes. Massage and facial therapies are also available for an additional fee. - Transitioning to a new home may be challenging. What type of support will my
parent, relative or friend receive to help them with this transition?
We understand the difficulties associated with a move to a new community. We encourage family members to be available on moving day to ease the way for a transition. Our staff will be available to welcome your family member and explain food service operations, housekeeping schedules, medication plans, daily activities, transportation and other services available on our campus. Our licensed clinical social worker is also available to help new residents cope with the emotional aspects of moving to a new place. We recommend that residents decorate their rooms with personal furnishings, photos and favorite items to create a comfortable, home-like setting. Adjustment periods do vary, but the majority of residents will settle into a new routine within the few months. - Is King-Bruwaert House a 501(c)3 charitable organization?
